Tell me more about the requirements to purchase a firearm
Father & Son Firearms is licensed by the ATF to sell firearms. This is commonly referred to as a"FFL." We are required to confirm the purchaser is a US Citizen, a Texas resident, completes a Form 4473 and passes a NICS background check.
If I have a Texas License to Carry, am I required to pass the NICS background check?
If the purchaser has a valide Texas Licence to Carry (also known as a Concealed Handgun Permit), a Form 4473 must be fully completed but, the NICS background check is not required.
Does the information from the Form 4473 feed into a national background check system?
No, by Federal law, there is no National Firearms Registry. The only record of the transaction is a number logged by the FFL to confirm the purchaser successfully completed the background check. The details of the item purchased and the confidential information on the 4473 remain with the FFL.
Do you purchase used firearms?
We do not purchase used firearms; we can help you dispose of unwanted firearms via consignment. Why? Negotiating directly with our customers and haggling on price runs counter to our core values. We want to provide our customers with best experience and price when you want to dispose of shooting or hunting items; we believe the best way to do this is through consignment.
What if you're unable to sell a consignment item at the minimum price?
On occasion, we are unable to find a buyer to purchase a previosly owned firearm at the desired minimum price. This is extrenely rare but, if it occurs, we will need the original seller to fill out a Form 4473 and complete a NICS background check in order to get the item(s) back.
